Trichloroacetic acid induces protein coagulation within the skin, leading to a visible frosting reaction that serves as a clinical endpoint. The peel penetrates to the level of the papillary dermis, where it stimulates collagen and elastin production as well as the regeneration of extracellular matrix components.

The addition of glycolic acid improves the uniformity of penetration and enhances epidermal turnover, while glycerin supports skin hydration and helps reduce irritation during the procedure.
